Notice of Changes in Renewal Policy

In order to facilitate the renewal of visas for non-permanent residents who are unable to return to Hong Kong in time due to the epidemic, the Hong Kong Immigration Department launched a facilitation measure last year to address this issue.

According to this measure, starting from April 8, 2022, non-permanent residents can apply for extension of stay outside Hong Kong, eliminating the requirement to go to Hong Kong in person to activate the new visa.

Initially, the facility was only valid until June 30. However, on June 29, the Hong Kong Immigration Department issued a notice and decided to provide everyone with a six-month transition period, and also announced that this convenient measure will terminate on January 1 next year.

In short, starting from January 1, 2024, for applications for extension of stay submitted to the Immigration Department, applicants must be in Hong Kong when submitting the application and receiving the e-visa for extension of stay.

Relevant visas extended to next year

According to the latest notice, before January 1 next year, the off-site renewal policy related to the following visas will continue to be effective.

This provides convenience for applicants, who do not need to go to Hong Kong in person and can still submit renewal applications in other regions.

The following are the specific visa categories:

★General employment policies (including employment and entrepreneurs investing in Hong Kong)

★Hong Kong’s Mainland Talent Admission Plan

★Hong Kong Talents Entry Scheme

★Employment arrangements for non-local graduates to stay/return to Hong Kong
