label: 2025-02-14

On February 12, the internationally renowned consulting firm Resonance Consultancy announced the first Asia-Pacific Best Cities Ranking in a lecture held at the Livable Cities Center.

The ranking comprehensively considers the three dimensions of livability, popularity and prosperity, and evaluates 100 major cities with a population of over one million in the Asia-Pacific region from the two aspects of actual city performance and public perception.

In this ranking, Singapore ranks first in prosperity, second in livability and popularity, and tops the list in total score, winning the title of Asia's best city.

This result also further consolidates its position as an ideal place to live.

Prosperity

In 1965, Singapore's gross domestic product (GDP) was only US$974 million, and by 2024 it had soared to US$530.7 billion, an astonishing increase of 54,387% in less than sixty years.

This extraordinary economic achievement is closely related to its superior geographical location and its highly friendly business environment.

Located at the southern tip of the Malay Peninsula, Singapore enjoys the advantages of a natural harbor and free port at the confluence of the Pacific and Indian Oceans, which together have made it a hub for global trade.

Coupled with the tax advantages such as a corporate income tax rate as low as 24%, exemption from capital gains tax and inheritance tax, it has become a popular choice for global investors and corporate elites.

The report shows that Singapore has now become a top global financial center, with 64 of the top 100 companies in Asia headquartered here. At the same time, global technology giants such as Google, Microsoft and Apple have also made huge investments and business expansion in Singapore.

In addition, the expansion of Changi Aviation Park and the development of Changi East Industrial Park are driving the rapid development of Singapore's aviation and trade industries; Tuas Port, which is expected to be completed in 2040, will become the world's largest fully automated terminal, further consolidating Singapore's position as a global trade and logistics hub.

02

Livability

Despite the construction of towering skyscrapers and modern facilities, Singapore has not forgotten to protect and develop natural ecosystems, making it not only the financial center of Asia, but also a world-renowned "Garden City" and "Forest City".

The data is enough to show its greening achievements:

More than 5,700 hectares of green area, with a green coverage rate of over 50%, an overall green coverage rate of up to 70%, and 2.6 square meters of park green space per capita.

Walking through the city, it is not difficult to find exquisite small gardens interspersed between rigid concrete buildings, and looking down from a high altitude, the entire country is like a green ocean.

In addition, Singapore has long been known as one of the safest cities in the world, and its people's happiness index ranks high in the world list, making it an ideal place to live.

03

Popularity

The report shows that shopping and dining are the two most popular leisure activities for Singapore residents and tourists.

For example, in the shopping ranking, Singapore's retail landscape ranks fourth. From high fashion and international brands on display at the luxurious malls on Orchard Road to electronics, spices and more at Mustafa Centre, Singapore has everything you need to shop.

Singapore’s dining scene is equally vibrant.

From Michelin-starred hawker centres serving up authentic local food to fine dining restaurants serving up-market dishes like spicy white pepper crab, the city has a wide range of cuisines to suit every taste.

Singapore, which started as a free and open trading port and has become one of Asia’s most modern, orderly and prosperous cities, is still making progress and its future looks bright and promising.

At the same time, Singapore is opening its arms to the world’s best talent to further its economic development.
