Chinese settled in Osaka

Approaching 50,000

According to relevant data, in September 2014, there were about 26,000 mainland Chinese living in Osaka. By September 2024, this number had surged to 49,900, approaching the 50,000 mark.

Among them, the number of Chinese in Chuo-ku is the largest, followed by Naniwa-ku, with a total of 8,343 mainland Chinese living in the two districts. Nishinari-ku ranks third, but has increased by about 1.6 times in five years.

In addition, Ikuno-ku and Kita-ku are also areas where mainland Chinese are more concentrated.

What are the main groups that have moved to Osaka?

From the end of 2022 to the beginning of 2023, a team composed of professors from Osaka Public University and associate professors from Fukuoka Prefectural University conducted a questionnaire survey on 172 overseas Chinese and Chinese in Naniwa District and Nishinari District.

The results show that the Chinese mainlanders living in Osaka are as follows:

★ Residence status: 59% of permanent residents, 15% of business management visa holders;

★ Age distribution: 77% of people aged 30-49;

★ Education level: 74% of college graduates and above, of which 21% have a master's degree or above;

★ Annual income: more than 50% of households have an annual income of more than 5 million yen, and 15% have an annual income of more than 8 million yen;

★ Purchase preference: 53% of buyers choose properties worth about 30 million yen.

It can be seen that in addition to international students finding employment and buying houses in Japan after graduation, many wealthy people also move to Japan through buying houses and business management visas.

Why did they move to Osaka

The new middle class and elite class mainly focus on two aspects: one is the children's education planning, and the other is asset allocation.

To achieve these goals, they often adopt overseas asset allocation (identity + real estate) strategies to add a guarantee to their lives.

Given its geographical advantages, Japan has become a popular choice for the middle class and elite class to buy overseas properties, and they are keen to move to Japan with their families through business management visas or highly skilled visas.

People who do not pursue the prosperity of the city and focus on real estate investment often choose Osaka for the following reasons:

★ Osaka is a large city in Kansai with complete living facilities and convenient transportation, especially convenient for traveling to and from mainland China (Kansai Airport), and low housing prices and living costs, slow pace, and spacious living space. If you buy a single-family house in Osaka, you can enjoy a leisurely life in the front and back yards.

★ Osaka real estate has high investment value. As a special B&B zone, it can be operated 365 days a year. Driven by projects such as the World Expo, housing prices have gradually risen. Some families choose to invest in popular tourism businesses such as B&Bs and hot spring hotels.

In order to cope with the declining birth rate and aging population, and to supplement the labor force required for economic development, Japan has improved residents' welfare internally, such as implementing free high school and university education, promoting a four-day work and three-day rest system, and increasing holidays;

Externally, it has relaxed visa application conditions, especially for high-quality talents, who can obtain permanent residency in Japan within one year at the earliest.
