Starting from the 2024/25 academic year, five of the eight universities in Hong Kong will increase tuition fees for non-local undergraduate students, with tuition increases ranging from 3.6% to 10.3%. Tuition fees for non-local students at five universities

Hong Kong Polytechnic University: HK$160,000, an increase of 10.3%;

City University of Hong Kong: HK$160,000, an increase of 10.3%;

Hong Kong Baptist University: HK$160,000, an increase of 10.3%;

Hong Kong University of Science and Technology: HK$170,000, an increase of 9.7%;

The Education University of Hong Kong: HK$145,000, an increase of 3.6%.

Currently, only the University of Hong Kong, the Chinese University of Hong Kong and Lingnan University of Hong Kong have kept tuition fees for non-local students unchanged. The annual tuition fees are HK$182,000, HK$145,000 and HK$145,000 respectively. The tuition fees of the University of Hong Kong still rank first among the eight universities.

The increase in tuition fees means that mainland students studying at these five universities will face higher tuition pressure. However, local students in Hong Kong can enjoy financial support from the Hong Kong government. In previous years, Hong Kong's top eight universities reserved 80% of their places for local students and the remaining 20% for non-local students. They also accepted applications for mainland college entrance examinations, Alevel, SAT, DSE, IB and other examinations. The quota is only about 30%.

Although Hong Kong Chief Executive Lee Ka-chiu proposed in the latest policy address: Starting from the 2024/25 academic year, Hong Kong’s eight major universities plan to increase their enrollment of non-local students to 40%.
